Ebenezer
Building Communities of Compassion and Support

Who we are

Ebenezer, which means “stone of help,” was founded in 1917 by Minneapolis Lutherans who were concerned about caring for homeless older adults. Since 1917, Ebenezer has worked to fulfill one mission—to help older adults and others make their lives more independent, healthful, meaningful and secure.

Building on our Lutheran heritage, we…

  • Respond to the physical, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions of the whole person.
  • Welcome persons of diverse cultures and faith traditions.
  • Practice responsible stewardship of human, property and financial resources.
  • Encourage continuing learning and innovation.
  • Strive for excellence

What we do

Older adults and others currently rely on Ebenezer and Fairview for senior housing; transitional and long-term health care; adult and intergenerational programs; home and community-based services; and the compassion and respectful care for which we are known.

Senior Housing
Ebenezer provides management support and services for many independent, assisted living and memory care senior communities throughout Minnesota. Each site offers a range of services such as meals, transportation and recreational activities, assistance with housekeeping and laundry, social services and short-term rehabilitation following surgery.

Health Care Facilities
When health care needs can no longer be met at home, Ebenezer provides a safe and highly supportive environment where residents can be as independent as possible. We work closely with residents and their families to develop a care plan tailored to best meet their needs.

We also provide transitional care, or short-term skilled nursing care, for those recovering from an injury or illness. These specialized units are designed to help patients get the rehabilitation and extra support they need to meet their care goals and return to their homes.

Adult Day Programs
Our adult day programs provide services for older adults who live at home or with family, but need some assistance during the day while caregivers are at work or in need of respite. Our programs include a structured daily schedule; individualized care plans; nutritious meals; an atmosphere of social and spiritual enrichment; and a circle of new friends.

Intergenerational Day Program
The intergenerational day program in Burnsville combines both adult day and child day care, meeting the needs of the youngest and oldest members of our community and their families in a unique way. Young and old gather daily to share activities, have fun and form meaningful relationships.

Home & Community-Based Services
From senior companion programs to home health services, Ebenezer and Fairview offer a range of coordinated services to meet the needs of individuals who choose to continue living at home.

The Ebenezer Foundation
Ebenezer’s foundation provides an opportunity to leave a living legacy of compassion for our communities’ seniors.

A reputation for innovation and service

Ebenezer has long been recognized as a leader in its field. For example:

  • Ebenezer Tower Apartments, developed in 1971, was awarded top national honors in 1972 for a design that promotes interaction among tenants.
  • In 1978, Ebenezer developed 7500 York, the first cooperative residential living facility for the elderly in the nation.
  • Ebenezer Park Apartments opened in 1980 as the first apartment project in Minnesota designed to accommodate wheelchair-bound and hearing-impaired residents.
  • In 1993, the American Association of Homes for the Aging awarded Ebenezer the Distinguished Service Award.
  • In 1995, Fairview, Ebenezer and Fairview Physician Associates received a grant to develop a health care model better suited to the needs of nursing home residents. Today this program is known as Fairview Partners.
  • In 2001, Ebenezer's horticulture therapy program and spiritual care and healing garden was awarded Innovation of the Year by the Minnesota Health and Housing Alliance
